Spell to Write and Read is the basic manual for this whole system. This “guide” will take you and your student through 40 steps to learn how to spell, write and read. I taught my three children with this program years ago, under the old title of the Writing Road to Reading. At that time it was difficult to understand (for me as the teacher!), but I trudged through it, attended two classes to learn more about it for me, and all three of my children have always scored way above their grade level in reading.

Looking through this book I can say that Wanda Sanseri has done an excellent job of laying out the revised program. Pictures of what the learning logs should look like, side notes on how to make spelling easier, options to steps that might not work for your student, all help to make this program more palatable than in prior years.

Additions include diagnostic spelling tests and scales, sample lesson plans in the back of the book, as well as lesson plans for students who place above spelling list M (older students) from the Wise Guide to Spelling . The spelling instructions are reinforced by simultaneously teaching other important topics which include phonics, literature, logic, grammar, composition, vocabulary building, figurative language, dictionary skills, Greek and Latin roots and comprehension.

Other required items for this program are:
