British Literature is a survey of British literature from the Middle Ages through the Modern Era. The text is divided into four major literary periods: the Middle Ages (450-1485), the Renaissance (1485-1688), the Age of Revolution (1688-1832), and the Age of Reform (1832-to the present). The selections, while representative of the standard authors and works, have been chosen to illustrate the Christian Interpretation of British intellectual and spiritual history.

This text does not exclude works hostile to Christian beliefs and values, since negative examples have their place in Christian education just as they do in the Scriptures. Negative examples are necessary to inoculate the student against ideas and attitudes that can hinder his growth in Christ.
