Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) was born to musical parents in Zelazowa Wola, Poland.  He was a composer and virtuoso pianist.  He changed his polish name of Fryderyk to the French spelling of Frederic, as he lived his adult life in Paris, France.   He was homeschooled until age 13 and gained his musical degree from the Warsaw Conservatory.  He never married but had a romantic involvement with the famous female French writer, George Sand. Afflicted with TB, he died at age 39.   230 of his compositions remain today, the most famous of which are the "Minute Waltz," the "Viennese Waltz," the "Fantaisie-Impromptu" and the "Polonaise in A Flat."  Many popular songs of our day utilize melodies originated by Chopin.
