Plaid Phonics Level C Student Book
Phonics Level C is typically used in the 3rd grade and integrates phonics instruction with meaningful reading in curriculum-related fiction and nonfiction. Students combine phonics skills with vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking to develop reading fluency.
Unit 1 - Celebrations teaches/reviews consonants, hard and soft c and g using sound to symbol exercises, words in context and meaning activities, and writing journal entries.
Unit 2 - Friends and Family teach/review short and long vowels using sound to symbol exercises, words in context and meaning activities, spelling, descriptive paragraphs, rhyming, and using lists.
Unit 3 - What an Imagination! teaches compounds, syllables, blends, and digraphs, Y as a consonant and vowel and R-controlled vowels. These concepts are taught using words in context exercises, rhyming, sound to symbol activities, definitions, phonological awareness using words in context, and writing a narrative paragraph.
Unit 4 - A Working Word teaches/reviews contractions, plurals, and suffixes using words in context exercises, rhyming, sound to symbol activities, writing activities such as diary entries and writing a news story.
Unit 5 - By the Sea! teaches/reviews vowel pairs, digraphs, and diphthongs using words in context exercises, rhyming, definitions, syllables, sound to symbol activities, and writing a friendly letter and the informative paragraph.
Unit 6 - Taking Care of Our Earth teaches/reviews prefixes, base words, suffixes, and syllables.
Unit 7 - Express Yourself! teaches/reviews synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and homographs, and dictionary skills.
