It Is Up to Me! provides a unique and intuitive way for all educators to facilitate student's acquisition of both spelling and reading skills. Its premise is that the student learns best when the student takes a leading role in his or her own instruction.

Originally created for dyslexic students, this approach has proven it's value for all students. By learning words in spelling patterns, the student acquires an additional means by which the relationship between the letters, their sounds and how they interact to create the written word is created.

Using this multi-faceted approach speeds and improves learning and retention. If you goal is to quickly and effectively teach all the essentials of spelling in support of reading, this work is an essential tool.

It is a tutor's book that can be used by anyone who can read this paragraph. It also contains the student's response pages. It is especially good to use to help an older child or adult. It uses the same basic format as Sequential Spelling I - except it has the sentences to be read along with the word to be spelled. Just as in Sequential Spelling I, the students get to correct their own mistakes immediately. This way they quickly learn that mistakes are opportunities to learn. There are student response pages for the first 60 lessons included in the back of the book. There are also listings of the phonic patterns that need to be taught and a comprehensive listing of the difficult words, ranging from the common 'was' and 'does' to the uncommon 'victuals', 'lough' and 'quays'.
