Lindley's Comment: After reviewing this updated course, I am excited to discover a simple approach to Christian-based American Government. The 5 units are more like mini-textbooks rather than LifePac workbooks (if you're familiar with their style already). The 10 Projects within the course are indepth enough to be considered for the honors-level requirement in our state (Florida). We completed this successfully with our third (and last!) child and wish I had had it for my first two.

Exploring Government
Curriculum Package -- The Exploring Government Curriculum Package includes two books - We Hold These Truths and Exploring Government.
Exploring Government is a one-semester high school course that provides a half-year credit in government. Lessons cover Federal, state, and local government and also contemporary issues in government. Special emphasis is placed on the Biblical basis for government and on the U.S. Constitution. Each of the fifteen units is intended to be studied for one week.
What the student is to do each day and each week is clearly outlined. The Unit Introduction page gives a brief overview of the unit, the lessons in that unit, and a suggestion for an activity that is relevant to that unit. Most of these activities are writing ideas, but some take a different form. The activities are designed to help the student think about and interact with the ideas that he or she is studying.
The purpose in Exploring Government is to educate, to inspire, and sometimes to warn you concerning the governments of the United States, the individual states, and our local communities. As we understand the background, basis, and operation of American government on all levels, we are better equipped to remain prayerful, thoughtful, and involved with regard to government.

So Help Me God: The Ten Commandments, Judicial Tyranny, and the Battle for Religious Freedom -- Judge Roy Moore's critics, both within conservative circles and
without, have maintained that Moore violated the law by disobeying the
order of a federal judge to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments
from his courthouse. But Moore brilliantly argues that those who ordered
him to remove the monument are the ones breaking the law by ordering
him to violate his oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States.
In So Help Me God, Moore argues that the states must
acknowledge the moral principles on which America was founded and that
it is not illegal to do so. This book articulates why Moore believes
elected and appointed government officials have the right and the
obligation to acknowledge God as the foundation of American government
and jurisprudence.
Moore's steadfast stand against the removal of the Ten
Commandments monument from Alabama's state Judicial Building rotunda
resulted in his removal from the highest judicial office in Alabama.
When U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson ruled the granite carving was an
unconstitutional endorsement of religion, Moore refused to obey the
order. Nevertheless, his eight colleagues on the state Supreme Court
overruled him.
Descriptive and engaging, Judge Moore gives play-by-play
synopsis of his cross-examination in the courtroom of the Alabama
Judicial Building, the place where he had, ironically, previously
presided as chief justice. Drawing on history as well as stories from
his life experiences, Judge Moore goes on to pose a brilliant argument that it is imperative, constitutional, and ethical for the government to acknowledge God.
The ACLU among others is attempting to take our right to
acknowledge God. Moore calls us to acknowledge the true meaning of
separation of church and state, and to understand this nation's intended
relationship with God.

The Nature of Government -- From Blue Stocking press and Dr. Richard Maybury, this pack of resources makes a great high school government course that's easy to understand and interesting to follow.
America's Founders were most concerned with establishing a government that ensured the greatest economic prosperity and the greatest liberty for individuals. The structure of government that they created was designed to curb the ever-encroaching nature and growth of government, which the Founders believed was the basic nature of all governments. Most civics/government books do an adequate job of explaining the structure of America's government. However, what is often lacking is the "nature" of government - which was of major concern to America's Founders. The following books provide the side of the story (the nature of government) that is most often missing from government/civics textbooks. These books have been used by students ages 12 and up, but are best suited for most students ages 14 and up.
